Stop Voter Supression in Detroit before Wednesday May 9th 2012

Hon. Dave Bing,
Mayor City of Detroit

Hon. Charles Pugh
President City Council of Detroit

1 Woodward Ave
Detroit, MI 48226

Contact (click here(City Council members and Mayor Dave Bing )) of the City of Detroit and ask them to stop practicing Voter Suppression by letting the voters decide the issue of Marijuana use in the City of Detroit on the August 2012 ballot.

We are requesting that you direct the legal counsel of the City of Detroit to discontinue the efforts to stop citizens from voting on the use of marijuana within the City.  The Lawyers and the fees associated with them are costing the city a lot of money. An appeal to the State Supreme Court is a form of voter suppression that is on par with Voter ID laws, and other tactics to reduce voter participation. In the long haul, the City will lose and, that would be a complete waste of resources and Detroit taxpayer’s hard earned dollars.  This issue should be on the ballot to let the people decide regardless of what the council and the Mayor have to say about it.

The State of Michigan will be trying to take control of the City in some way, shape or form because of money. In the big picture Medical Marijuana has generated over 12 million dollars for the State in registration fees alone.  Empty buildings in Detroit have been revitalized by the cannabis community to have clubs, businesses, and events that bring revenue and visitors to the City of Detroit.  Unlike churches in the city, Cannabis businesses pay property taxes and utilities like DTE and Consumers Power, unlike churches paying NO property tax at all.

It is imperative that the elected officials of the City of Detroit drop all legal challenges to the city-wide ballot proposal being on the ballot and, let the people vote in August 2012. Please act on this request by directing City of Detroit’s legal counsel to not file an appeal with the Michigan Supreme Court.

Sincerely,

Open Letter to Mayor Dave Bing and the Detroit City Council: Stop Voter Suppression in Detroit

The following letter was sent to the Elected leadership in the City of Detroit on the behalf of the citizens right to participate in the direction of the city.

Hon. Mayor Dave Bing
Hon. Charles Pugh – City Council President
1 Woodward Ave
Detroit, MI 48226

Subject: Dropping the City’s lawsuit blocking the people’s vote on Marijuana in the City of Detroit.

We are requesting that the Mayor’s office and the Detroit City Council drop their legal challenge at the Court of Appeals to the Detroit Marijuana Ballot initiative. We want the issue to be voted on and decided by the voters in the August primary election of 2012. The Lawyers and the fees associated with them are costing the city a lot of money that can be used elsewhere. To continue this action is a form of voter suppression that is on par with Voter ID laws, and other tactics to reduce voter participation. In the long haul, the City will lose in the Supreme Court and that would be a complete waste of resources and Detroit taxpayer’s hard earned dollars. The issue will be on the ballot to let the people decide regardless of what the council and the Mayor have to say about it.

The State of Michigan will be taking control of the City in some way, shape or form because of money problems. Medical Marijuana has generated over 12 million dollars for the State in registration fees alone. Empty buildings in Detroit have been revitalized by the cannabis community to have clubs, businesses, and events that bring revenue and visitors to the City of Detroit. Unlike churches in the city, Cannabis businesses pay property taxes and pay on utilities like DTE and Consumers Power unlike the church paying NO property taxes at all.

It is imperative that the elected officials of the City of Detroit to drop all legal challenges to the city-wide ballot proposal and let the people vote in August to decide the issue. Therefore please act on this by directing your legal counsel to withdraw the Motion for Reconsideration filed with the Michigan Court of Appeals at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Clement

The City of Lansing MI 420 Slate of Candidates Tuesday Nov. 8th 2011

The following is a recommended list of candidates that are on the ballot in the City of Lansing Michigan

1st Ward - Lynne Martinez
3rd Ward - A’lynne Robinson
At Large - Derrick Quinney

These candidates have been identified as the best supporters of the Michigan Medical Marijuana law in the City of Lansing and the voters who supported it by %63. The allegations made by the Greater Lansing Progress group about Derrick Quinney are disturbing and plays to the old stereotypes of African Americans in jail in orange jump suits. These allegations are fabricated and, the sponsors of this effort Rory Nuner and Tom Stewart should be punished at the polls for this. Lynne Martinez and A’lynne Robinson also show strong support of the cannabis job creators in the city. The 420 slate recommends these candidates as the best persons for the job of being a Lansing City Council member and urges you to vote for them by November 8th.

Sincerely,
The 420 Slate.

A Report from the front lines in Lansing Michigan

By Richard C. Clement
aka Weed Warrior

Progress on City of Lansing Ordinance 876 regarding Medical marijuana businesses in the city limits is coming along well. The meeting on Thursday with the public safety committee went smoothly and everyone who wanted to speak did speak. The 24/7 business community stepped up to the plate to contest the provision of the ordinance to restrict their working hours between hours of 11pm to 7am.

They performed very well and asked for the right lines in the ordinance to be struck from the record. A big shout out goes to our colleague Roberto Castillo from the TNT 24/7 dispensary who; did his homework and, attacked the document in the proper place. Numerous medical professionals spoke on the behalf of the ordinance and wanted to see it dispensed from places like Walgreens pharmacy and other places.

The major opposition to the new business is the neighborhood associations who want them gone at all costs. However city officials are supportive of the Grandfathering clause allowing existing businesses to stay in their present locations. If forced to move, the city will incur costs of paying relocation expenses and other indemnities. The best resolution is to use the business model of free market capitalism as expressed by CNBC host Larry Kudlow. Let the market decide who stays in business and who goes from the landscape. The concern for the small businesses is the inception of a large entity like a wall-mart or a Weed-mart coming in drying up business from the main street shops.

Lansing Michigan is quickly becoming a model for Michigan’s Marijuana reform movement. All the speakers had valid points. The Lansing City Council conducted a professional meeting with the citizens to set the direction for local, state, and international trade in Marijuana related products. The Capital City Airport has a US Customs station on the facility allowing for international flights to come direct from Amsterdam Netherlands. It is small like Coleman Young Airport in Detroit and is equipped to handle midsize passenger aircraft.

Lansing residents have 3 more opportunities to express their support for this Cannabis revolution. On Monday June 20th, @ 7PM the council will hold a public hearing on the ordinance that is open to the public. On June 23, 2011 @4:30pm at 316 N. Capital Avenue Lansing MI the planning board will be holding a public meeting in their conference room. Finally on Monday June 27, 2011 @ 7PM on the 10th floor of city hall, the council will take a final up or down vote on the measure.

Ingham County NORML and the cannabis community appreciate the fine effort of the citizens of Lansing and the elected leadership of the city to address the growing economic boom that has come to the City of Lansing and the State of Michigan in a much needed time when people are in need of new ideas and employment opportunities. Reclassifying Marijuana from a Schedule one drug to a Schedule 3 drug by the Obama Administration is the ultimate goal. In the meantime, the City of Lansing Michigan has taken the lead on this exponentially expanding business.
